Nielsen report confirms huge numbers for the 36th America's Cup
Great to have been a part of this and thoroughly enjoyed working with the host broadcasters as the TV news producer to deliver the news packages for TV broadcasters around the world.
Age and experience would normally make me a little suspicious of TV stats but with the ability to quantify online viewing figures, even just on my own PlanetSail channel, it was clear that we had a huge audience - monthly views on PlanetSail alone never dropped below 520,000 / month during the 4 month Cup period with several of the individual features hitting figures way above this in just a few weeks.
One of the most satisfying things was to see just how many people outside the sailing community were drawn into our sport, many of them openly admitting to being hooked and indeed, I'm amazed by the number of people that are still watching the 'back catalogue' and leaving their comments.
I'm also very conscious that the numbers have built from the core sailing audience spreading the word, so thank you all so much for your support and comments. Not only does it help to develop PlanetSail but in a connected online world, sailing is at last getting the wider audience that we all know it deserves.
